Collective Bargaining In NC

There's currently a movement to allow collective bargaining in NC. From what I have heard in lineup and what I have read, this is a pretty good deal for us. It basically means that we could get better pay and benefits from it, if it passes. However, this is not a union, it's just a way for us to band together and get what we want. Also, if we don't get what we want, we can't strike due to us being law enforcement officers. Get all the info at this website. NC HOPE Coalition | Home

If you are a member of SEANC, then you are apart of a union that simply lacks collective bargaining. They were a "professional association" until they became a union in the last couple of months.

Many moons ago when I was working there, I was part of SEANC but they did more for the teachers and Highway Patrol than they did for the DOC. Also a true union will help you if you get jammed up and it's not really your fault. SEANC never did that. Hopefully they have changed and are truely helping you guys. Collective bargaining rights are great, but its nice to have that union rep and or lawyer on your side when going before the admin (or to court) for something you "allegedly" did and are being disciplined for.

Nothing has changed....SEANC hasn't changed a bit, still all about the teachers, and nothing for the CO's. Well unless you count them coming out to tell you they want your money to work for you. I haven't met a single officer that has good things to say about them.

Yea SEANC is crap, it seems more of a "good ol' boys 'n girls" club than anything else. I have yet to see them put forth any kind of effort to do something that benefits DOC.

That's why, in my 5 years, I have never joined SEANC. We are sort of an after-thought to them.
