I watched it with my Fiance, and it was a great movie.
Starts off outside, then goes into a Correctional Facility for the rest of the movie. Don't want to spoil it for anyone albeit, it has numerous and abundant, Correctional Officer presence and action, in it !!!!

Do they portray the inmates as the bad guys and the co's as the good guys??? It seems that a lot of prison movies they have it the other way around.

I agree, most movies involving prison show the inmates as poor abused inocent people and the Officers are the thugs.

Its a mix mix. Some Correctional Officers are portrayed good, while others not so good. All of the inmates are wild and institutionalized. I was cheering for all of the COs throughout the movie......

I think thats why we all have a hard time getting good raises and benefits. It's the public's view on us and what we do. There needs to be a movie that is made that shows everyone the abuse we go through on a daily basis.

Re: Felon - in theaters now

"American Me" is a movie about gang offenders doing time. There is a lot of violence in it, while at a Correctional Facility. That does provoke thought towards the hostile nature of Correctional Facilities, albeit, it does not cite abuse on Correctional Officers.

I would fear a movie coming out, showing abuse on officers, for the simple idea that some may interpret such movie, as promotional violence on officers, which could increase the danger already existing. Am sure you could finger, a few handfuls of criminals, that would of course see it just that way. It is a comforting thought, that some movies, such as “Felon”, show Officers being assertive and aggressive, as a deterrent to provocation, if anything. The CO’s in the movie FELON have a great deal of command control presence.

Maybe someday, a CO will write a book. Being well promoted, Hollywood would make a movie based on a Correctional Officers Book right away. Then everyones going to know, what CO’s go through at work on a daily basis..

With all of the applications being put in for Correctional employment, one might figure a book written by a CO would do quite well !!!

Re: Felon - in theaters now

A book or a guide would be good to give to prospective applicants when they are going through the process. The biggest retention problem I see at my facility is that new officers do not know what they are getting themselves into. The other major problem I see with the Department is the lack of resources to deal with officer stress. What I do see, is more and more programs for the inmates while things get harder for us. It's a freakin' shame, and really makes us think who is more important.

I watched Felon a few days ago. Real good movie. Many things in the movie portrayed things the way they really are. However, that LT was a mess.
