The states opinion on CO's having a part time job?

Hey guys, i am curious, if i end getting on with a prison that runs on 12 hr shifts. it seems like there would leave quite a bit of time off.

i have my own company (doing home theater and telecom) and i want to be able to do some side work to supplement the CO income.

now i completely understand that NCDOC would come first and i completely understand that i would probably need to be on standby. with what my company does, i can be able to report to the prison in a pretty short time.

would this be acceptable for my future supervisor?

do other CO's work part time somewhere?

also, is it possible to request extra shifts for extra income (at the prison)?

thanks guys

I forgot the name of the form, but there is a form that you must submit for approval to work a part time job, you should be able to get one during orientation. Also I'm not sure how it is at other facilities, but you typically are not able to work extra on other shifts. Even if you were able to, you would not be paid overtime, the state gives you comp time which is similar to vacation time.

You would have to fill out a request to do so. However, with the type of work you are doing they shouldn't have a problem with it.
