I started NCDOC back in 97 straight outta the army....had copies of my ETS physical and everything and they still did the rectal exam on me and I was only 26 at the time.....I think its standard.....if you didn't get one, you must have just had a lazy doc.....Of course I haven't worked for them since 2004 so things may have changed......

does NC DOC issue boots/footwear or give an allowance? or is it up to the CO to buy their own?

i have been looking at boots. there are alot of things to consider; 6" or 8", waterproof, shine(able), steel/composite toe. some are just standard looking black boots, some have some stitching on the sides (Converse).

are there certain requirements for NC DOC?

thanks

The only requirements for footware for the department are that your boots/shoes are ALL black and are able to be shined (no suede) I wear a pair of 5.11's and are a great boot. Steel toes are not a requirement and in my opinion not a good idea because of the amount of walking you may do. If you feel safer with the steel toes, then go ahead. Also, as far as I know DOC does not issue footwear. I bought my boots before my start date.

Yep, those are fine.

Your first year you pay for your own boots. Every year after that you can be reimbursed up to $80.00 as long you bring in your receipt and submit a reimbursment form. Example: buy $100.00 boots, submit form and get $80.00 back you only spent $20.00 out of pocket.

Tabor correctional....as in Tabor City?
If so that was just a thought on paper when I was working for NCDOC....I was working CCI in Whiteville and it was the talk back then. If's the same place and you get on let me know, I may know a few guys there......

Also, if it is Tabor City and you move to the area....it was only about 30 minutes to Myrtle Beach....that was the best part about living in that area of the state......
