Retired corrections officer captain
FRANK WILLIAM MARKWARD, 65 | thedailyjournal.com | The Daily Journal January 4, 2010 FRANK WILLIAM MARKWARD, 65 Retired corrections officer captain Frank William Markward, 65, was known as Bill to many of his New Jersey friends, Kicker to his siblings, and Frank to everyone else. He was born in Bryn Mawr, Pa., in 1944, and grew up in Bordentown, (as he would say Exit 7 on the N.J. Turnpike). After high school, he went to work for the New Jersey Department of Corrections. He joined the U.S. Army in 1966. After service to his country, Frank returned to corrections at Trenton State Prison. He retired as a captain at Southern State Correction Facility, after 25 years of service. He then took over as warden of the Atlantic County Jail in Atlantic County for four years. In 1992, Frank and his wife, Kathy, purchased a home in Brenham, Texas, to be near her parents. In 1994, they sold their Millville home and moved to Texas. He is survived by his wife, Kathy; four children, William Dean Markward of Browns Mills, Shana and Mark Siegel of Wyckoff, Susan and James Dummer of Georgetown, Ky., Stephen and Kimberly Schiffman of Sanford, N.C.; his in-laws, Edwin and Frances Sidebottom of Brenham; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Elizabeth Markward of The Villages, Fla.; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Robert Berman of Marlton; seven grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father and mother, William and Rebecca Markward. Secure in the knowledge that God will resurrect him, Frank requested cremation of his final remains. During his illness, Frank often said that he knew exactly where he was going when his time came and he had complete faith in his Lord and Savior. But, he would add with a grin, "Hopefully it's just not TODAY!" Today came on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, in College Station Medical Center, where his big heart finally gave out. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Celebration of his life at the Millville Thunderbolt Club, 704 North 8th St., Millville, at 7 p.m. on Thursday. For further information please contact Dan DeTullio at (856) 825-5656. Written condolences may be sent to rocapshannon@aol.com. |
