The email thing is not going to happen. They may try it somewhere but some of these inmates are professional computer hackers. Oh yeah, you can probably have some list to keep them off but where there is a will there is a way. Encryted messages with gang hits, compromising the net with viruses, work arounds to surf the net. I worked a juvinelle center that had this type of access for a short time. The little inmates did all of the above. It will not work.

How much of this mail reaches SIS that can be used for cases they are trying to get off the ground or close?

It may or may not be read upon reciept...

Is SIS even tied into the system?

I don't think its a good idea. If the terminal crashes for some reason.. all the inmates will be in an uproar for not being able to check their email. There are ways to get around systems..give it time and it will happen.. sheesh I can already get around websense that the Army uses on its NIPR computers if I wanted (I don't). It will be just another headache for the Officers to deal with.. Someone wont get out of the seat when the times up and a fight will start.
