Armed Escort Training
Does anyone remember when the Bureau conducted "armed escort training" in Marana, Arizona? That was a few years before Artesia, New Mexico training site came along. I think it was a mistake to have canceled that training. It had a lot of good information and training during that two week program. Escorting inmates is a very important area of our jobs and could use some really good training offered again. Did anyone else attend?

Re: Armed Escort Training
I would like to see this type of training in the institutions themselves. It could be done by existing firearms instructors blended with self defense. Items that should be covered could be...
Weapons retention Use of tactical cover tactical driving techniques Night firing Use of actual moving targets, not the stationary flip ones Tactical shooting positions and stances. Firearms laws It would not be that hard to do, do it on a voluntary basis... I think they would be surprised at the turn out to get it. Things like this are needed, we work premiter security, med trips, bus, and other such things where this basic knowledge would be invaluable. If you are prior military, some of the concepts and ideology are already in place. But, If you have never been in the military or prior law enforcement. IF you were to be placed in a position out in the open with someone armed confronting you.... Most likely you would freeze, game over.... You have no skills or knowledge to pull from to respond to a situation such as this. I think is desperately needed by the bop.
