Inmate got to ME???

I must say that it almost seems like the bureau wants you or expects you to be halfway friends with these criminals, of course untill you take it too far. I am glad I began with the state prior to the BOP. I am one who never forgets where I came from. And I will continue to use my state ways while with the BOP. Minus the hands on off course.

I have said this NUMEROUS times. I always fall back on my old state training. The BOP way just don't cut it when you are going toe to toe with a hard head.

The BOP could learn a little from the state prisons they love to snub and look down their noses at.

area51 u are so right on that statement. I left state Max and started in Lex co-ed, had a hard time adjusting. Never totally adjusted, would go hands on in a minute when pushed to until I retired. Two days before. survival is the key to self pre-servation in side prisons. Try me by 12 , don't care me by 6. Look in the past when officers could defend theirself and to the way the KGB is conducting training for self defense.

I went TDY once and witnessed a SOS bring in a plate of cookies for the inmates in his housing unit. I don't even know if I remembered to give him the keys when he relieved me. Wonder where his career led him?

I 'll never forgett as a brand new spanking 6 , the day a Hispanic inmate decided to "test the new guy" by trotting up to me as the main corridor was being shut down. "Officer,Officer, I missed mail call. And I really need to get this sent to my Mom." All of a sudden , A thought chimed into my head , "Never take mail or anything else out for an inmate"--VIA = Lt. Chilly Willie & Lt Cooksey . So I never touched the piece of mail . And explained to the inmate as I took out my pad and pen to write down his name.etc. At that moment , this inmate says,"oh , hey maybe I will put it in tonights mail call." Well, he went back to his cellhouse AFTER I shook him down. Later , after shaking down his cell with his COMPADRES trying to watch , I located betting slips, etc .

Onward to Seg he went. Now at the time I was GREEN ,& still considered a ROOKIE But I was watched over by the likes of the aforemention Lt.s , Officers M.Lopez,H. Hurlbut,and a few other Old School HACKS , Back when Convicts were dropped to the corridor floor and questioned LATER .

If this was the BOP, his path led straight to the top with few detours. If he's not a warden, he's one of the army of cocktasters at a regional office monitoring the cameras in your institution and second-guessing everything you do or don't do.

i think working around lower security inmates at say a camp could leave alot of staff members vulnerable.i use to work alot of ot over in unicor as a iso and saw alot of **** i wasn't comfortable with,but i seldom had inmates try to get over on me even if i wasn't totally familiar with the routine :and i they did and i figured it out i let them know that it would not happen again!
