"New" Uniform Question ?

It seems pretty obvious that Unitec and AD Meyers and two other places (?) are where to get the knit shirts. However, I've been wearing grey BDUs for a few years (Facilities) and simply switched to Navy colored ones after my new shirts came in.

Whoa !!! Big gnarly issue now ... from the Warden on down.

I'm a huge fan of negotiating from a "position of strength" and was wondering if anyone knows whether the "B" unifom slacks MUST be bought from a mandatory source? and ... (especially since the various "approved" sources are NOT manufacturing the same exact same pants) whether this sourcing requirement was negotiated at the National level ?

Anyone who's gotten used to the comfort and utility of BDUs can probably sympathize with where I'm going on this.

No flame intended, but ... I'm much more interested in facts and hard info than opinions right now. Links and/or something in print would be especially welcome.

Stay safe

Well, policy says staff must wear the approved uniform. bdu pants are approved for sort, dct and bus operations. as for everyday wear as a correctional officer, your gonna catch flak and the ones shooting at you are in the right. I agree that the pants are a very low quality, but right now that is what we are stuck with.

There is a big stink going around that staff are buying dickies pants and not the ones from the approved vendor. Heard UNITEC was going to try and sue over it if the BOP didn't solve the matter for them. Well, from what I have ordered from UNITEC, there stuff sucks and falls apart. The uniforms I got from Galls have held up and feel a whole lot better than UNISHI!..

I have to agree. I think the uniforms from Galls are made much better. I have one full set form unitec. They are 2 weeks older than the ones from Galls, which is only about 3 months old. The ones from unitec are almost to the point that I will have to throw them away very soon. On the other side of it, I think Galls is slower and takes longer to ship. However, much better quality.

Re: "New" Uniform Question ?

I have been wearing Dickies pants. They are much better quality than galls or unitec. I will keep wearing them until they make me stop. Many staff here bought the galls or unitec first until they started falling apart within weeks.after that they switched to dickies.

Re: "New" Uniform Question ?

Almost everyone at Memphis is wearing Dickies and cutting the tags off of 'em. Old, homesteading Lieutenants 'aint studying it. The exec staff don't say anything.....hell, there are so many people wearing them, they probably think they ARE the "Authorized pants"

They did put out a memo that stated we MUST buy from approved vendors ONLY!

Memo.....Shmemo! WE OLD SKOOL!!!! WE 'AINT SKERRED!!!!

I love how the new uniform on the Facilities staff by the end of the day looks like ca-ca and is all dirty and dusty looking.

Re: "New" Uniform Question ?

Look at the unitec and galls pants close and notice the loop type button. Also the seam zipper, but I have seen some pantw with them and some with out. That is how they will the vendor pants apart. If you waer Dickies, take the tag off, and don't wear the ones with cargo pockets. I bought class-a uniform pants from 5.11 and love them. Although I spent $50.00 it is well spent for comfort and durability. If the uniform look like a duck and quacks like one you wont get harrased when they start cracking down. I also bought a white shirt from 5.11 and had it embroidered. It even has the bi-swing shoulder, so it quacks like that duck. Look at the origional order brocure from Galls and you will different versions of the shirt pocket pleats. So you can do you own and it will look just like the brocures. Basicly if you want a good uniform that look like the vendors you are going to have to spend more money up front, because with the current quality you will be spending every bit of 400 and them some. Good luck.

"policy says..." I'm not trying to wear mint green cargo shorts, just NAVY BLUE BDUs !
Where does it say that approved source = approved uniform? And, again ... was the "approved source" requirement negotiated by the Union ?
I do appreciate the comments AND accept the advice ... but I need hard info.
(If you couldn't tell by now ... I HATE taking "no" for an answer)

Re: "New" Uniform Question ?

The new uniforms are friggin crap...

Everyone is talking about how they tear, buttons pop off, seams unravel, stitch work unravels. Galls has a white edged flag - Unitech has a yellow one, galls polos have a flag - unitech does not.. both uniforms are different colors of blue...

A "reel genus" dreamed this one up...

Here in Alabama the 100% cotton uniforms being worn in humidity that is similar to a fish tank...

Just think another 5 - 7 years then we will have a new design. The next time it will most likely be snow parkas and pink rabbit ears...
