Re: "New" Uniform Question ?
I'm thinking we "may" be able to wear "any" navy, leg-pocketed, un-cuffed, straight-leg work slacks... for Class "B", AND not have to worry about the infamous "mandatory" source.
Here is the MOU ... (I'll still more than welcome any additional hard info.) MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, FEDERAL BUREAU OF PRISONS AND AMERICAN FEDERATION OF GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES, COUNCIL OF PRISON LOCALS, #33 The following reflects a mutual understanding regarding the decision by the agency to change the staff uniform for the Bureau of Prisons. 1. The agency has approved the change to the staff uniform as follows: Dress uniform for high visibility/public contact posts (normally front lobby, visiting room, some escort trips) : white dress shirt, navy blue pants with no leg pockets; navy blazer; navy tie. All other posts and departments (e.g. Food Services, Facilities, Mechanical Services) will wear a blue utility shirt, navy blue pants with leg pockets, and an optional approved (at the employee’s discretion) polo shirt. Recreation staff will wear the new approved polo shirt and the approved navy shorts with the BOP logo on the left leg, or the long navy pants with pockets. Nurses uniforms are not affected by this uniform change. Current MOU’s and Local Supplemental Agreements regarding the uniform will remain in effect during the lifetime of the current Master Agreement. However, it is understood that the wearing of nickel grays, or any additional uniform items (except foul weather gear) previously agreed to at the local level will no longer be permitted. 2. It is understood that the agency will re-evaluate the uniform in two years from the date of this MOU. Any input from the union regarding the uniform will be taken into consideration by the agency. Should a decision be made to change the uniform, the union will be informed of that decision, and will be given the opportunity to void this MOU within thirty days of said decision. 3. A uniform committee submitted the proposed design to the agency for consideration. It is understood that by entering into this MOU, no elections have been made and no rights are being waived under 5 USC §7106 (b)(1). 4. The local warden will provide all correctional services staff with reasonable advance notice (when practicable) in those unique instances when the polo shirt will not be permitted. For purposes of this MOU, unique circumstances are defined as days in which there are special occasions/special visits above the Director’s level (e.g. Congresspersons, DOJ Officials, external dignitaries). UNIFORM MOU 1 OF 2 5. The current uniform (the uniform utilized prior to the effective date of this agreement) will be an acceptable uniform until January 1, 2009. All staff who wear a uniform will be required to wear the new uniform no later than December 31, 2008. 6. The union agrees to open only the Human Resource Management Manual, Staff Uniforms, solely for the purpose of amending the policy to be in compliance with this uniform change. This MOU does not pertain to the uniform allowance issue. ___________________________ ________________________ L. Cristina Griffith Bryan K. Everyone gets to wear the polo that day but custody. |

Better to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Re: "New" Uniform Question ?
Is UNITEC changing the type of material they have been selling? Got an email saying all the new uniforms were on sale, due to upgrading the uniform. Any change they do sure can't hurt, what I have from them has or is falling apart.

Re: "New" Uniform Question ?
I went out and bought Dickies after a 'wardrobe malfunction' at work. I was at the farthest end of the unit from the office (of course) We were doing a bedbook count. It was hot, and I was sweating like a pig. I managed to drop a card and bent down to pick it up. I felt my pants tear. We have huge fans running, so nobody else heard it. I stood up, and the inmate I was looking at kept giving me his reg # over and over cuz he thought that's what I wanted. There were two thoughts screaming through my head; how much of my ass is hanging out, and what underwear had I worn that day? (Please, please let it not be the pink lace) I motioned at my co-worker and finally got across what had happened. He leaned over, looked at my ass, and said loudly "it's not that bad" I turned to walk down the hall, and he and an inmate both said, "oh yes it is!" Thank goodness we had a Unit Team member helping us count, I was so flustered I took over watching instead of counting. Longest damn walk to the office I've ever endured. I was trying to walk only moving from the knees down. Had to look absolutely retarded. I ended up wearing a co-workers DCT pants for the rest of the night. The thing that really ticked me off is that the pants didn't tear on the seam, they torn across the back of the thigh! (all the way across) These were not tight pants either, I don't wear anything remotely tight at work. They were just sweaty and sticky. They couldn't have been over 2mo. old. My co-worker told me, oh hell, you just showed off a bit of thigh. Hey! It's MY thigh, and I sure as hell didn't want to flash a bunch of thugs!
I bought Dickies the next day, then I found dickies.com and found some womens Dickies. I won't go back to the Galls pants, no way, no how, send me home. Quit laughing, it was traumatic.
