MCFP Springfield - A new era!
Our recent GL-8 board at Springfield was a refreshing change of pace compared to boards of the past. Fourteen officers were selected as GL-8s by our new Warden, Marty Anderson.
In the past it was rare for someone to be promoted if they weren't a butt-kisser, snitch, back-stabber or golden-boy. This time not one single officer fit into those categories. Each one who made it is a solid officer who comes in, does their job, and goes home with no fanfare, self-promotion or calling the LTs three times per shift. As you can imagine, some of the LTs and other supervisors are extremely pissed that their 'team members' were passed by for promotion. In addition, no SORT, DCT, HNT, or any other over-achievers were promoted. Of course the animosity of those officers passed by is at an all-time high. Some of them who never get out of their chairs unless an LT is making rounds are spitting teeth they're so mad! Kudos to Warden Anderson for promoting officers based on merit, not on how many daddies they have! To all the LTs at Springfield whose golden boys didn't make it - ![]() Last edited by 'Tude; 07-02-2008 at 12:56 PM. |

You are telling me that no one on your teams are hard workers! Amazing. My experience is that folks on teams have good workers and bad, like anything else.

Re: MCFP Springfield - A new era!
Did I use the term "no one"? Of course there are good workers on those teams. However, a good portion of them think that just by being on a team they should automatically be promoted, which is how it used to work.

Re: MCFP Springfield - A new era!
I agree 100% with what 'Tude says here. I've been at Springfield less then 6 years but I've seen plenty of officers promoted who that I wouldn't trust to change a trash can liner let alone being a GS8 officer. Most of the officers that have been promoted since Ive been here have been buttkissers of one kind or another. Its nice to know that regular guys like me who just do their jobs have a chance to be promoted now.

Re: MCFP Springfield - A new era!
I'm still in shock about that board.
With every name that was announced a strange pattern emerged and it was one that no one had ever seen before. Marty Anderson is a breath of fresh air to Springfield for obviously cutting the LT's out of the loop on this board and promoting good officers instead of the status quo. All of those promoted were officers who come in, do a good job, and don't come in early to spend quality time in the LT's office before shift. Also, almost all who were promoted are those who stay off of days to intentionally avoid the politics and butt kissers and work evenings and mornings. The overt sucking up is rampant in Springfield between golf games, Texas Hold 'em tournaments, and fraternization between line staff and supervisors. Many of the supervisors and line staff have been in the military and know the kinds of problems that this brings, but somewhere along the line they lost their way. The line staff realized he could get something by sucking up and the supervisor has some pathological need to be kissed up to, probably due to low self esteem and childhood abuse. They either don't realize or don't care that by keeping this cycle of sucking going only butt kissers like them rise to positions of power and then they'll have line staff to suck them later. Unfortunately it is not the cream that seems to rise to the top in the BOP, but those who will swallow it. |

Re: MCFP Springfield - A new era!
I agree this was one of the better boards in quite a while. One I don't ever remember working a D/W as the #1 Officer for a whole quarter. Three were relief officers for the Lt's office.

Before this past board they had made a mockery of merit promotion with their "8" selections. They were promotting officers strictly due to race, sex and suction power no matter how much time they had in or how many of the "key posts" these people were qualified to work!

Re: MCFP Springfield - A new era!
Right after the 8s were announced a younger officer came up to me and asked me how he can get his 8 the next time. I recently e-mailed him this and I'll post it here for your viewing pleasure.
Dear xxxxx, Here it is! After hours and hours of deliberation I have come up with your GUARANTEED path to GL-8! All you have to do is select two items from column 'A' and three items from column 'B' and you'll be in like Flynn! These are all things that officers have done at one time or another that got them promoted, or are doing out here now that will ensure their promotions. Let me know how this works for you and please, there's no need for thanks. The only thanks I need is to see you on a career path to Bureau Director as you so richly deserve. Please remember us little guys when you get there. Column A * Buy bass boat, take LTs fishing. Pay for everything. * Buy gun, take LTs hunting. Pay for everything. * Make kitchen cabinets for LTs. * Sell tires at below wholesale to LTs. * Play golf and Texas hold 'em with A/Ws * Go drinking after shift with LTs. * Hang around LT's office as much as possible even if you should be doing your job elsewhere. * Call Ops LT on radio six times per shift and act like you don't know the difference between your head and your ass. Column B * Let LTs sleep with your wife. * Tell LTs how smart they are, even if they have the IQ of a doorknob. * Let LTs pat you on the back and congratulate you for the job you're supposed to be doing in the first place. * Jump out of your chair only when an LT comes on your unit. * Go to every off-duty event they have, get as drunk as possible and make a fool of yourself. * Iron your uniform shirts every day and put six "lifer-stripes" on the back of them. * Help an LT move into a new house, clean out his attic for him while you're drunk and then fall through his ceiling. Sounds ridiculous doesn't it but everything single thing I've stated here has actually taken place as some of the older officers like fedhack can attest to. Pretty damn sad, eh? |
