Re: stab vests
That's true, but after one year of doing convoys with it on in the back of a humvee....I would not complain at all if I had to wear a stab vest at work.

Re: stab vests
We need to stop our crying about the agency providing a vest to us. Do your research and go get you one. There are many options/weights to choose from. Wearing a vest should be just like like wearing underwear, and the agency cannot tell me what kind to wear. You wear a vest under your shirt, you should be the only one who knows it's there. I knew a Lieutenant once who wore one faithfully, only after he was stabbed in Lewisburg. You buying one yourself should be no issue, skip paying your car insurance for a year with your uniform allowance and go get a vest. We always want the BOP to buy us something, wake up, they are not. It's all about the cost. Would you rather tell you family "I have a stab wound because I kept waiting on the BOP to get me a vest and paying for a new $400.00 gun was more important than my life." It is getting dangerous out there, be proactive for yourself on this matter, your life could depend on it.
God Bless You. |

of course there arent, but i was just giving an example (from personal experience) as to why they should not have complained about the heat. and if someone says that the reason they didnt buy a vest is because it made them hot, id call them a fukking retard and tell them to quit and become a typest or some other pancy asses job. |

Re: stab vests
mandatory since 2000 at my facility; they do work (Second Chance) but it takes a while for new officers to get fitted, so they usually have to wear returned vests from departed officers. You could catch a disciplinary charge if you don't have yours on during inspection during lineup.

Re: stab vests
It was on the morning of July 30, 1997, that Officer Fred Baker, 35, gave his life in the line of duty.
Baker, a member of the custody staff at Bayside State Prison, was fatally stabbed by an inmate, making a widow of the victim's wife, Kelly, and leaving a 14-year-old boy and a 20-month-old girl without a father. The stabbing effectively created a void in the lives of family, friends and New Jersey Department of Corrections co-workers that will never be filled. I am a true believer in stab vests. It is mandatory while on duty and in uniform even outside of any institution for the NJDOC. Ours are the ZERO G. It is also bullet resistant. And yes, it is hot and uncomfortable, but not as uncomfortable as the Bakers have been feeling since their son and our brother officer was murdered buy a piece of garbage. |

Re: stab vests
If they do not want to let us have vest can we at least go back to....... well I heard....... some staff used to carry knives?????? Maybe the BOP can just issue us some knives to fight back with. I always feel like I have showed up to a gun fight and forgot my gun when I seen an inmate with a knife!!!! At least even the odds. They have knife.... I have knife!!!

Re: stab vests
I don't want to told I have to wear a vest. If anyone thinks that I'll be wearing a vest in control center or anywhere on M/W before 6 am they're crazy. My thought is they should be optional.
What I really want is the extra officer on the block and room in SHU to put the A**holes when I need to. The way I see it at my joint is things are out of control because inmates are running around knowing they can be insolent, drunk, and generally aggresive toward staff because they know we're undermanned and there is no room at the "Red Roof Inn" for the a** in the SHU. |
