Dirty Staff

In my short time with the BOP, I have seen a few people go out as dirty staff. The females that were, rarely suprised me. They were all kind of a bit on the odd side. The ones that really amazed me were the guys that did. Of the ones that we have had at our institution, most of them had in an average of 15 years with the BOP. Most were at the GS-9 grade or above. Most of all they were the ones that I think most staff at our institution liked. They were the popular staff. Not just among inmates but among staff. Personable. People who I personally considered my friends. Boy did they have me fooled.

I guess the point of this thread is this. There were some things about them, that now looking back, were signals that I should have seen. They had inmates that had worked for them in their department for a long period of time. They had Money problems at home. There were some factors in each that were clear cut signals they were vonerable. Now, if I saw them, but didnt catch them. And the inmates saw them, and exploited them. What are some of the common threads to the dirty staff that you have come across. Some of the things looking back you noticed. Were you suprised at the fact they were dirty ? Most importantly, is there anything more you could have done to stop them ? That is the question I ask myself most often. Could I have done anything different ?

I've seen some walked out that surprised me, and others that were no surprise at all. As you stated, one of the common things is when an inmate is assigned to a certain area under the same supervision for a long period. One of things that I noticed is when the staff member starts backing up an inmate when the inmate gets himself in hot water. Things are said such as..."He ain't a bad dude. It was just a misundeerstanding between you and him. Maybe you should lighten up." RED FLAG!!!!!!!!!!

A dirty staff is going to be dirty no matter what it does not matter if the dirty staff has money problems or not. Just because they got 15 years in does not mean crap they were probaly dirty from the get go and just now getting caught up in it.

I learned the hard way once i was asked by IA about a officer, she worked for me and i knew her personally outside work. They asked me my personal and professional opinion on the officer. I told them no way was she doing the things they said,that i knew her and her family, boy was i wrong when the next week they Caught her in a room with a I/M giving him oral relations. After that i told myself that i would never stick my neck out because the only person I know for sure beyond a shadow of a doubt that is not doing anything is me !!! sometime you never know and some times Ray Charles can see !!!!!!!

Everyone is suspect. Our Chaplain got walked out last year for bringing in large amounts of tobacco.

Ive seen many walked out. However, I dont think it was a surprise to me on any of them. Nothing surprises me in the BOP anymore.

We have a LARGE (in more ways than one) female staff and as such we have had MANY females walked out for relations with inmates. Most of which were BIG surprises! Most were reasonably good looking women that could have had most anybody they desired but yet chosed a convicted thug? ALL were allowed to resign which is BS to me! The BOP cant wait to prosecute a male officer that has relations with a female inmate, but refuses to prosecute a female for having relations with a male inmate. MAJOR DISCREMINATION!

I have seen a lot of dirty staff walked out .....and have had the pleasure of walking a few out myself.

in another life, I was both a steward and a local offiicer during a few of the investigations. One in particular.....was walked out and came to us for help. She absolutely denied on the bible that she had contact with the thug. She had us believing her to the point that we thought the railroad was in progress. Then the investigator came to me...someone I respected...and tod us that we needed to back off....he then took me aside and gave me disclosure as to the evidence they had...................cha-ching! Naked photos of her found in the inmates cell....................

Another MALE was in communication with a former inmate from our place at another institution by phone.....Denied everything to us.......long time employee.....The investigator (same one) took us out to his house and on his very expensive stereo system ........played the tape of the conversation between the thug in prison .and the thug in uniform talking about security items

But by far......the one that floored me the most. We had a female food service worker who had YEARS in ...........was a real Biatch on wheels with the thugs that worked the kitchen. Nice gal, great worker, good cook....retired after 20 some yrs..........and promtly married a inmate at another institution......who had worked for her in the kitchen here.
