As much as I hate to agree with you Jenna - its true, but the communication skills do need some polishing. He may speak to you a little nicer b/c yall are on the same pay scale, but us 7's and under, it is usually pretty not nice.

As a Lieutenant (9 that is), I will say that some of us aren't that bad. I have been a 6 year Lt, due to the fact my politics don't jive. You have some good ones, you just forget about them because they have been banished so long, you forgot they were Lt's, and think of them as peers....which ironically, is what the good ones are. Unfortunately, the ones that are stupid enough to continue up the ladder, must first sell their soul to the little kid, that used to have his milk money stolen, on the recreation yard. That is the new BOP....just a bunch of H. Lappin clones. The same way Bush has run all government agencies, with fear and a ton of retardation. Any of the leaders, you might follow, are hunted down by the less fortunate(Administration), and ruined for the chance of upward mobility. I never thought I would see the day when we would be following orders from folks that don't know policy. There is no one to blame but ourselves though, custody encompasses 80 percent of the BOP. If we were really tight knit, as we should be, idiot management would change to adapt to us, not vice versa.....When I started at USP Lewisburg, that was a motto, "you don't change Lewisburg, Lewisburg changes you." But if you ever really want to see just how screwed up a place can get, just go to the Mid Atlantic. They have micro managed that place so badly, you get directives from the inmates.

Have you tried to leave the Institution where you are so unhappy at? Or are you just trying to promote within? I know a lot of people aren't willing to move due to family issues etc., just wondering if your case is the same?

In response to shakedownshorti....93 green weenies BQ'd later, I would say I have reached my ceiling, career 9. Thats what the process, and striving to be a good Lieutenant will get you. The one thing I will never regret though....I have the respect of the line staff, and can trust them to have my back. There is a lot to be said for that. Now I just try to fight the good fight, for the troops, but the ever growing corruption above can certainly bulldoze you over. I have come to find out that the part about integrity, and the Employee Code of Conduct, only applies to the little guy. If you don't believe that, get involved in any of the processes the Bureau has set aside for you, EEO, OSC, Whistleblower, No Fear, or even just try your chain of command. The worst thing they ever did, was do away with the "flag pole."

As far as worst in the BOP goes, I think we have more than our share here, Don't get me wrong, the line staff are great, the gs-12's and above... oh brother I would trade 2 exec's for a ...hell, just take them !!!
