besides the obvious has anyones institutions put out a list of contraband items that you can not bring into the facility? or has the BOP put one out i know i see alot of stuff allowed in here at forrest city and then you have a guy who is stopped for bringing in a pair of safety scissors that the inmates are allowed to purchase it seems to me the bureau is kinda making things up as they go i know at my other facility we were ran through a metal detector everyday and there was a specific list of things you would not be allowed in with it took us forever to get them to let us bring food in from the outside behind the grill just curious to see how things are going at other institutions

Re: contraband

The only items specifically prohibited by our institution are:

Metal silverware, and other metal utensils
iPods
Glass
USB drives, floppy disks, and other rewritable media
Laptops
Personal weapons (obviously)

This list was created pre-staff searches.

Cellphones, pagers, alcohol based hand cleaner, leatherman multi-tools, SORT knives, or any knives for that matter.

Re: contraband

Go to BOP: Policy and Forms Main Page and click the "Find a Policy" link. Browse the 5000 series on "Inmate and Custody Management." There is a new program statement. It's number 5510.12 and entitled "Searching, Detaining, or Arresting Visitors To Bureau Grounds and Facilities." It replaces Program Statement 5510.09 "Searching, Detaining, or Arresting Persons Other Than Inmates," and applies to every person on BOP grounds except for inmates in BOP custody.

In this lovely new policy you will find the BOP's new conception of "contraband" and how to deal with it.

It is pretty fly by night. Depends on who is up front. But as far as I can see, it is the same stuff as before. Cell phones, knives, personal cuff keys and cuffs ect..
