with 14 years in, i too love working the CC. had to weasle my way in like most did with my senority. first it was relief post M/W, then #2 relief Post E/W then D/W. by that time i had enough time in to get #1 M/W at our new FDC. i personally attempt to wrok the CC at least once a year, min. i will be the first one to stand and say not everyone should work the CC. too many 8's and 7's here at Gilmer can't manage their own personal time let alone under the gun in the CC. STRESS is a killer, both real and imagined. it is easier to find resons to disqualify someone from working the CC then there are for trying to demand they work this position. would you feel safer to have the #1 on senority, 23yrs & Tool Room Officer, who hasn't worked the CC in 10 years or that bright shinning star of a GL-7, looking to make a name for him/herself, the right way. give me someone who can manage time, handle stress, has enough knowledge to understand what's important, the coolness (arrogance) to tell everyone "NO, you will do it on my nickle or it ain't happening", and the balls to tell the Warden and/or AW "Don't push my buttons sir, i have enough bell and whistles going off in here without you adding to them".

Re: Central Control, How hard is it?

A couple of nights ago the Lt. had to pay Overtime for M/W control because nobody on shift knew/could work it. Now if i'm not mistaken, at the time we had about 6/7 gs8's on shift. Go Figure.

My friend had a good joke about me working control as a gs7, that "I was the lowest paid GS8 we had." i thought that was kinda funny.

Not only that, in June when the regular Control Room officer (I'm the relief) goes on his 2 weeks military leave, I get to get pulled from my post and work his, but keep my same days off......he has weekends, but that dont bother me all too much, at least i keep my sunday pay.
