Re: H.R. 1889 and 1890

I work in a private prison, housing federal inmates, and have for a few years. Our unit is on that list, but I won't go any farther than that due to sensitivity of the Admin staff here. We are required to go through what is called a CFM audit every 6 months. CFM stands for Contract Facility Monitoring. This not only goes over all of our in place policy and procedures to make sure that we are in-line with all BOP regs, but also a full accountability of our budget. Due to our current contract, if we are out of line on anything, budget, policy, procedure, all of it, they fine us and it goes back into the BOP budget. The same audit is only performed every 3 years in the BOP. We have a JCAHO monitoring every 3 years, and a general ACA audit every year, with a recert audit every 3 years. If we fail any of these audits, bye-bye contract. The BOP doesnt have that on thier heads. Dont want to start a fight between Fed and Private, but many people are confused on how some privates are under a microscope more than the BOP or most States.

I fully hope and pray the second bill passes with flying colors, because then everyone could see that not all privates are out to waste money and abuse the inmates. I wish everyone could see how we run, and see the studies where they proved over a 10 year period that the Federal, State, and Private prisons all ran within 5% of the same budgets when holding the same inmates and same programs.
