BOP Policy

Got a question for all of you -- I've been hearing a lot about how in the BOP we're supposed to do five cell shakes a shift and either five or ten alcosensors per unit per shift. I've been looking for the policy to back me up (because I'm actually doing the shakes, which is pissing off the inmates and because I want to know whether it's 5 or 10 alcos because I've heard both).

The 5 cell searches may be in you local Institution Supplement on Searches of Inmates and inmate property. I have seen it sometimes written into Post Orders. Also the 10 Alco tests maybe in local policy or Post Orders. Both have been common practice in every joint I've worked in for the past 28 years. If your pissing off the inmates, your doing the right thing, keep up the good work!

Thanks!

I checked my post orders, couldn't find it. Checked the institution supplements and couldn't find it in either the Searches of Inmates and Inmate Property -- it referred me to the Correctional Services Manual. I didn't see it outright in there but I haven't had a chance to check very well yet. But since it's common practice I'll use that as back up. Thank you!

Re: BOP Policy

if it is pissing off the inmates do 10 shake downs and 20 alco sensors. The ones that come to you complaining, start doing visual (strip) searches. That will keep them quiet. Remeber that is your house...

I don't think that the Bureau would like it if I strip searched my male inmates...lol

I'm not so much pissing off the inmates that I'm worried about...they can kick rocks. It's the lieutenants that I'm worried about -- apparently it's getting under their skin that I'm making them work because I find stuff in almost every cell I search AND I'm actually writing shots. But I'm just doing what they told me to

Girlfriend, if you are pissing them off then you are definitely doing the right thing....keep hitting em', hit em' hard and make those rounds!!! I never sat down when I worked and they hated it!! If they have hooch they are going to be moving it to keep you from finding it.....it was always 5 cell searches when I was around too.....hell, do as many as you want, your not there, as you know to be their friend...go get em' and get one for me too!

Be wary. Don't forget who you work for. Just because searching inmates is the right thing to do doesn't mean that the BOP will not punish you for it some day.

I LOVE it when the officers on shift are finding stuff. It shows the inmates whose house it is. I don't mind doing the work (of course I've been told that's because I'm still young). Come on out to Lompoc!

Re: BOP Policy

I've seen milk crates and milk cartons labeled as being from Lompoc -- is there a dairy farm there?
