Legal Help From Unions

Can someone tell me what kind of legal matters within corrections will the legal rep. from a union help you/represent you? I haven't had the need...KNOCK ON WOOD...for one, but you never know.

Get with your union for the answer. Some, like the FOP, will pay for representation on a case-by-case basis. Some, like mine, offer group rates for professional liability insurance if the member chooses to purchase it.

Our local union has received help from our CPL 33 Regional VP and AFGE on cases. One union member hired his own private attorney and we held the arbitration. It makes an impression on management if they don't see a familiar face on the union side. They become confused and realize they can't retalliate on that person or predict what will happen so it kind of fuddles their minds a bit.
