Re: What if an ex-inmate had a gun...

After a little research the State of Alaska allows citizens to make an arrest if witnessing a commission of a felony.

...So lets say it's a felony for a felon to have a weapon in his possession...

Can you use the information you know because he/she was in your prison against the felon to make the arrest? Or does this go into the ethics law violation.

Haha....I had a cz-83 pistol for the longest time, it was a good little .38, but sold it because I didn't feel the need for it a year ago. After hearing stories though, I started looking around again. The Glock 23 looks nice! Anyone have any problems with this model?

Acting off duty, when you have the authority to do so, is unwise in most situations. Trying to act in this manner as a private citizen is always unwise, regardless of the law.

If you are somewhere with your family, your first and only thought should be to get your family out of that situation. Pack you junk up and get the hell away.

The best advice for anyone, regardless of your off-duty authority, is to be a good witness. Call the police and give them a description.

Get on your CB. What the hell are you doing camping without a reliable means of communication?

You can defend yourself within State laws. Some States have what is called a "duty to retreat", which means you must make every attempt to get out of the situation before resorting to deadly force. Know the laws of the State that you carry in.

I'd just use a rock on the psycho! I've seen Cape Fear, but the guy failed to finish the nut case off with the stone at the end. He should have bashed in his freakin skull until the gray matter spilled out! It's too coincidental that a con would show up at the exact same spot where you and your family are camping out at.

If I'm with my family and see some Ahole with a gun and I think he's coming at me arresting him or what my powers are are the last things on my mind. My gun would be in his face with orders to drop his and get on the ground. If he didnt, well, its gonna be messy. If he did then I would probably call the police, I'm a deputy sheriff with arrest powers but I'm not a cop. So id let the cops make the arrest.
