Badges only go out when you are issued a firearm to go off the property, ie: Med trips. (True here at Milan, anyway)

Too many people would abuse badges anyway. I don't see the need for them.

Its that kind of thinking to blame for the issues we have in this agency

So, other Law Enforcement Officers shouldn't be issued one for carry either,(according to that line of thinking). Not that I need a badge, but that's faulty thinking.

There are abusers of authority, and misrepresentation in other agencies besides the BOP. Look at the funny papers and you'll see the occasional reports.

Officers with that line of thinking probably do not think that we should be able to carry off duty.

I'm not really following you... I'm just saying what I've heard. I didn't write the policy on badges.

But I most certainly think hacks should be able to carry concealed while off duty.

But I don't see why we need badges while off duty. If somebody is willing to explain it, I'd be willing to listen to that opinion.

It is true that you did not write policy on badges. It's also indicative of what you have probably seen concerning abuses, from within our own agency. Admittedly it's not good, but it is not an excuse for us not to have badges along with permission to conceal carry handguns. I have heard of people not having a badge, but working for the agency, putting a light on their car and trying to do traffic stops, (which is stupid, as it's not in our powers per Title 18 USC Sect. 3050, with the exception concerning our duties on BOP property). But, it doesn't mean that the rest of us with some sense of responsibility should be prohibited from carrying ID's.

The fact of the matter, as the policy concerning firearms and badges indicates, badges are for on duty authority only. We are not covered for off duty authority by our agency, therefore we don't need a badge. That, and LEOSA doesn't require us to have a badge, rather an ID that is numbered to the bearer of the ID.

If we did have off duty authority, as being the same as on duty, we would have the pay that goes along with it, the issued firearm that we would be allowed to use, as ICE does.

Well first off Im not a hack or a guard I am a Federal LEO who happens to work in the field of Corrections on the custody side of the house. I have been both on the road and the inside. A Badge is a symbol of pride for a Peace Officer as well as a symbol of authority.
