Well they need to speed it up. Remember, the 110th Congress ends in January. If you subtract all their vacation/break time, there isn't a lot of time left.

Re: H.R. 5674 Correctional Officer Safety Act of 2008

I just got off the phone with Louie Gohmert's office. They are on board. Phil and I met with him during Legislative Week back in February. I knew he would be supportive. They are supposed to call me in the morning after their morning staff meeting. I also have Ralph Hall on board as well. He is actually the Congressman for Texarkana, Texas. They are calling me in the morning as well. I also talked to Congressman Mike Ross. He is the Congressman on Texarkana, Arkansas side. He is also on board. If we can get a few more to follow suit, we can have this done this week. Follow up your e-mails with phone calls. I have such a repore with these Congressman, I can call their office, and they know me first hand. Let's shove this down Lappin's throat.

I am the Legislative Coordinator for the South Central Region. If you need help, let me know. That's what I am here for. I sent out e-mails to all of the local President's last week. They should be on top of this. Maybe. We need Legislative Reps at every Local. That way I can get this to the right people at the prospective Local. Let's keep up the pressure.......

Re: H.R. 5674 Correctional Officer Safety Act of 2008

I'll be damn. I figured this stuff out. Here is the e-mail that Eric Young put out about the 2 central office staff members going to Congressman Meeks' office. Enjoy!

Gentlemen,

I was contacted a minute ago by my Congressman's Staff (Kendrick Meek) PhyllisJo Gervasio. She advised me the Bureau of Prisons met with her today --to stop this Bill from being passed. She stated, she met with two representatives of the Bureau, one gentleman by the name of Mat Brodernick and someone else who claimed to be a Deputy Director (female). She could not recall the name, but indicated, the person was very rude.

She stated, the meeting was very poor, and the representatives came with nothing to give to the Congressman. This is good, because, she says their arguments, to say the least, were very weak and ridiculous. She stated, she only regretted that she did not contact me to be there to counter their arguments. Well, I told her, if any meeting is scheduled in the near future, please call me or Phil. She laughed, and stated, "They may not be coming back." But, this let's know what we are up against. I knew there was going to be an initiative by the Bureau to work against us, but, I did not know that it was going to be so soon.

PhyllisJo cited, we need to get at least 20 co-sponsors on this Bill by the end of next week. Jenny Brown-Waite (Orlando) was the latest Congresswoman to signed on a co-sponsor. That was after one phone call was made to her Office by a Local 506 in Coleman. Folks, you cannot tell me, if 115 Locals do the same, we cannot have 20 Congressman by the end of next week.

For years now, we have been undermined by this agency--preventing our folks from bringing their weapons on Bureau grounds. We have the backing of the Legislators on the Hill willing to go to bat for us. Let's show the Bureau we can come together, not only for funding, but to get measures like this passed. I am begging, each RVP and all National Officers to call their respective Congressmen/women to ask them to sign on to HR 5674. Please, let's achieve what some say could not occur.

Please forward all your Presidents some form of an email.... to let them know to get to work on this immediately. Please.

In Unity always,

E.O. Young

Re: H.R. 5674 Correctional Officer Safety Act of 2008

I was wondering if the asswholes may have violated any type of ethics policies by goining down there and demanding that the bill be taken off the floor sounds like bully tactics to me.
