Tonight I asked my son if two boys with the same last name were brothers.

He stuttered and said, "I don't know what you mean?"

I said, (very annoyedly), "Brothers? You know brothers? They have the same last name."

He said, "I know they are cousins." in a very quizzical manner.

After I hung up the phone, my husband started laughing. He pointed out that both boys are black. No wonder my kid couldn't figure out how to answer the question!

(and I don't know why he would think I was referring to their race when I asked if they were brothers since I have not ever used that to describe black males.)

Tonight during the game my daughter tells me about a conversation she had with another parent. (He has boys that are the same ages as my 2nd and 3rd and 5th children)

He saw her walking with friends to another friends house. They stopped to talk to his oldest son and the dad asked her if I took care of foster children or something.

She said, "Why cause she has like 20 kids?"

He said, "Uh yeah."

She laughed and said, "Nope. They are all hers."
