New from southern california

Hey all, i finally found a great community online that seems to be legit. I definitely will be asking some questions on here lol. I myself am currently in the process of (hopefully) being picked up by CDCR. I just took my written exam and written psych passed the first half. Now I'm on the second step. Any tips would much be greatly appreciated guys and gals. I hope to hear from all the BTDT people

Tks,
Prodigy82

Re: New from southern california

Hey, welcome aboard,

I just got hired by CDCR and start the academy Monday. The hardest part of the whole process is the waiting. It took me almost a year.I am guessing your next step is the PAT.The hardest part with that is the bicycle.Leaves your thighs a little wobbly but over all it is not that bad.If you have access to a bike I highly recomend using it just to get your muscles used to that motion(it is different than running). As far as the PHS goes just be honest and do not leave anything out. When it comes to the PAT if you are over 30 and think you might need a DR.'s signature get it ahead of time it will save you from having to reschedule. If you don't need it then great but just in case it won't hurt. One more thing,if you can check out Pacovilla.com it is a site put together by some C.O.'s from CDCR alot of good info. When you link onto the Boards you have to register to get to the CDC thread, and they also have a "Rookie/Academy "thread which is very helpfull.FYI the boards are down untill sometime on Saturday for maintenance.Anyways good luck, feel free to ask any questions.I will only be online on the weekends so it might take me a bit to get back to you.

Prodigy,There is no actuall oral board.I am assuming you will be turning in your PHS the day you take the PAT.When you turn in the PHS all you do is sit down with a member of the background investigation team and they just make sure it is filled out right and that there is nothing immediately disqualifying and then finger print you.The only other face to face interview is with the shrink.

Re: New from southern california

Thanks Meat, I was under the impression that we were supposed to get interviewed by a panel during the second portion of the process. I guess that partially eased me down a bit. Since you went through this already, i noticed that on the letters it does not say anything about the dress code for the second portion. I suppose a pair of slacks and a button down should do the trick ? Thanks again for the input and good luck with the academy. Hopefully i'll be a new boot as well :-). I firmly believe i have what it takes

Re: New from southern california

thanks for the greetings guys. however, i think i may of blew my chances of becoming a C/O. I'm actually really bummed right now. I got a ticket from the county sheriff for running a red light. i'm about to go into step 2 in the hiring process. if anyone here is/was part of a hiring panel do u think that this violation will do me in ?

Just let them know, it shouldn't be a big deal. If the CDC didn't hire people based on Traffic Tickets they would hire 9 people a year.
