Welcome! So, are you in the Thurston County area? Where do you hope to go to work?

There are PLENTY of jobs open in WA DOC. Feel free to ask advice about anything in the hiring process.

Re: Hello from WA

Thanks for the warm welcome folks.
I am from Olympia actually. I'm currently in the process with Stafford. I have a psych interview in the middle of November. I did my interview and fill in the bubble test on the 18th. I, apparently, was removed from the hiring list for cedar creek after passing the initial interview there, they are working on finding out why I guess. I'm hoping the same thing doesn't happen at Stafford. What was the hiring process like for some of you folks? I'm really interested in what the academy is like as well.

Re: Hello from WA

Academy is pretty basic. You'll get a some Tactical Verbals, some legal system processes, classification, and of course your defensive tactics. There are no weapons taught at the CORE academy's because some institutions do not have them, so weapons training is done when you begin at your prospective joint.

The CORE curriculum is very strictly stuck to because it is accredited through a college. There is some stuff taught there that is WACK, but must be done and you will get guided the right way once you get online.

I do believe that no one has been failed do to academics for the whole state, so it's really not too tough.

I'm not sure where you'll go, there are like 5 different academies in the state, and I think that Stafford will go to Shelton or maybe Tacoma, but I really don't know.

Re: Hello from WA

The weapons training is the same, just some places don't have them.
