I'm currently serving my 2nd combat tour in Iraq,I was born in raised in Leesburg Florida.I have been stationed in Alabama in Oklahoma I will be leaving the military after 4 1/2 year's in Jan 09,I'm interested in working as a Correctional Officer at the Federal Prison in Coleman Fl,I was wondering if any one could give me guidance on what steps I need to take?. In 2002 I was charged with felony battery in which I paid a $500 bail and I haven't been any trouble since,I currently hold a Secret Clerance will that arrest stop me from being a CO?.

The BOP is ridiculious in not being tolerant of past problems. I would only suggest you apply on USAJOBS and go from there. I wish we could change the restrictions on hiring, we probably miss some very good potential hacks. Best of luck and be safe over there.

Th question will be Do you plead guilty? Or what was the outcome? Or did you get convicted. If all those questions are within applicable guidlines and your credit record is in decent shape you should very lottle problems. The only I can say is be honest.

So, was that $500 a fine after being convicted. Or were the charges dropped?

Re: I need Guidance

You have to find the final outcome. Anyone can be arrested and charged for anything, including capital murder, but being arrested doesn't count; only convictions matter. Either you were convicted, or you weren't.

If you don't know what happened, then you need to contact the police agency or court that handled this. You might have to contact several offices. What you're looking for is a letter explaining the final disposition of the case, or a letter explaining that they have no record of the matter.

You must list the arrest, and explain the final disposition as well as you are able. Failing to list it will be grounds for immediate dismissal whenever it comes up, whether it's in a month, or five years.

Re: I need Guidance

OK here is what happen back in 2002 I got into a fight in the apartment complex that I lived in,the loosing party didn't want to press charges but a witness of the fight did. So I was placed under a citizen arrest in charged with Felony battery, I was booked into jail and paid a $500 bail. I got a lawyer who told me that I was just wasting my money by hiring her because most likely the loosing party want show up in court. I was giving a court date in which my lawyer showed up for me I didn't have to go,she told me the loosing party didn't show up for court and I didn't have anything to worry about and that was that I never heard anything about it again.

Get your documentation regardless of what it takes.....like everyone is saying....that way when they ask you have it and it won't slow the hiring process...

Get your paperwork in order and apply. There is only one real way to find out whether you will make the cut and that is to go for it. Or you could try the

So, your charges were dismissed. That means you are not guilty.

However, you were arrested and must disclose that fact. I doubt that this will prevent you from being hired.
