Newbie
Hi to all. Found this site by accident but thought it would provide good information for a newbie in the field. I started in corrections about 7 months ago...quite a change after being a banker for 7 years. I work at Scotland Correctional in Laurinburg, NC...a close custody, all male prison. So far I can say...THIS IS THE CAREER FOR ME!

Re: Newbie
Welcome to the forums! If you have any questions, just ask!!! Lots of knowledge and great people on here! Can you share some stories with us? Tell us why you did the transition from banking to corrections? Big difference there, unless you got robbed and are going after the perp!!!!

Re: Newbie
Not many stories that I think would be any different than any other C/O has experienced. There was an inmate stabbed to death a couple of months after I started, but it wasn't during my shift. It was just kind of ironic because I had just spoken to that particular inmate not even a week prior to his murder. Gives you a whole different perspective on things after something like that happens.
Well, there are several reasons I changed from banking to corrections. First, I guess, my dad was in law enforcement. Being a "daddy's girl" I just wanted to follow in his footsteps somehow. Secondly, I was in TWO bank robberies. All perps have already been captured (two have already served and been released). In banking, you never know who is going to walk in that door with a pistol down their waistband or just so desperate they don't care what happens. Atleast on the inside you know they're all crooks, rapists, murderers, etc. Plus, although I was good at customer service, I HATE it! We're supposed to be fair to inmates...not cordial & polite! That's more my speed!
