Re: Forgotten Cop - Class Action Lawsuit
Ok, I support that we as corrections professionals need better support from above, but some of the things in your complaint seem like you are creating some of your own problems. Lots of the blame game going on there. Yes the job is stressful. Yes the job is difficult. No it does not MAKE you drink. You choose to do so. Seems a little difficult to believe that you were fired because you are a single parent? Was it because you didn't go to work on a regular basis with the excuse that it was child related? Without backup? Are you drama in human form? Kinda sounds like it. Sorry if this is harsh, but I suggest you take a GOOD look at yourself and see what part you had in this mess of your termination. THEN consider filing a lawsuit.
Good luck.

Thanks for your honesty. I was held hostage at work and my life was threatened with a gun. Diagnosed with PTSD, anxiety, etc. Under ADA people are covered especially if the onset of disability is because of incident at work.
Appreciate your response..... |

Re: Forgotten Cop - Class Action Lawsuit
Ok, THAT makes a little more sense.
Were you held hostage by an offender or by staff (nobody laugh, it happens)? I would think that would make a difference. Unfortunately I think a lot of people believe that you should expect to be assaulted/held hostage/etc. by offenders at least once in your career and if it happens, it happens. I am not saying it is right, but I'm throwing it out there. I guess I really don't have a good answer for you. I work with some people who have been assaulted and never said another word. I work with others who were assaulted YEARS ago (6+) and whine about it ALL THE FREAKING TIME!! I understand it was a rough experience, but really, if you haven't done anything to address it and get over it yourself, then I don't want to hear about it. So that being said, Be one of those people who is proactive in caring for herself and getting on with life. YOU will be better off for it as well as everyone around you. |

I was threatened by co-worker (work place violence) and my supervisors held me "against my will" forcefully. Locked me in a room and joked about it. This other c/o had two guns and history of putting guns in staff members faces in parking lot. Like you said, people just deal with it. I was not mad at her threatening me as much as my supervisor's making jokes and thinking they were above the law. I dialed 911 and supervisor hung the phone up three times. Police Arrested supervisor. Long story. My disparate treatment was due to my Union affiliation.
My point is my person was on constant attack and when **** hit the fan my supervisors betrayed me and the inmates had more honor and respect for me because of my reputation for having integrity and doing the right thing. Inmates had my back and "It is what it Is", yet being locked up they were still honorable men and protected me. Sucks when you have to be protected by criminals versus your own. ADA applies to individuals with proven history of disabilities (PTSD, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, etc.) and my GOAL is to take the stigma out of getting help. Today, I own a Humanitarian Company focused on Education for children and kids who want to attend college for FREE. It's become my outlet and it feels good to help parents send their kids to College. This is my coping mechanism and being a single parent it is my Life Purpose. Thanks for your honesty! PIA |

I wish you the best of luck.... You said the inmates had your back? Being protected by criminals? Thats not a good thing. You didn't work in corrections long did you? If you went to work thinking the inmates were protecting you and had your back... you got caught in their game.

Re: Forgotten Cop - Class Action Lawsuit
You are misrepresenting my information. They had my back on one day of my LIFE. Read carefully, and pay attention. I had 15 years and family in Government and many Law Enforcement agencies including FBI, so my background is extensive in Law enforcement.
When you work 16 hrs a day you have to learn to pick and chose your battles. You may be "Baby Rambo" or "Chuck Norris Mini Me" inside the walls, but some of us "Do the right thing" and never compromise our Intergrity for anyone. Take the jokes lightly. If you dish it you should be able to handle it! My background in psychology helped manage people without excessive force. I worked their to descalate problems and create a more cohesive working environment. My concern at work was the safety of my co-workers, and the public first and foremost. Picking fights with inmates would endanger people so impeccable verbal skills are the key to control in any Correctional Facility. If they wanted to fight well, baby bring it on. I was down for anything because I was trained to handle myself and growing up in New York speaks for itself. Not my first choice to piss people off. You can be stern and direct to do your job without violence or intimidation. I did not have to prove myself physically because my education and demeanor spoke for itself. I got respect and did not demand it! Thanks for your insight. Sounds like you work in a violent prison or facility. Good luck and stay safe. PIA |
