Prison officers now qualified farmers Tuesday, November 17, 2009 Fourteen Prison officers recently completed two weeks of on-farm attachment training with the Taiwan Technical Mission Research farm at the Sigatoka Valley to learn about the latest technologies in farming.  Prisons Commissioner Brigadier Iowane Naivalurua says his officers were sent so they can teach inmates of proper farming husbandry and practices. The Prisons Department is looking at setting up its own farms to feed its own prison population and also as a prisoner rehabilitation project.
