I am totally against those types of contractors in general. You never get as good of a product as you do when you have direct control.

Re: Fight Causes Prison Lockdown
Unfourtunatly what you or I think does not matter! Until there is a major change in the administration (from the pres to AG to all other department heads) the privitizing will be a large part of the GOV. They are saving a lot on retirements and health care costs of retiree's etc. And if they loose a few private prisons because of riots they don't care! remember the mavie john Q? where denzil washington couldn't get the hospital to save his dying son! the administration reminds me of the calius personality of the board at the hospital in that movie...They don't care

Re: Fight Causes Prison Lockdown
I work for corrections corporation of america. I hear all kinds of negative things about private facilities.Almost everything you hear is bs.Our SORT team gets way more training time than DOC does.We are staffed. Its just the media, they twist things around to make us look bad.Bad things happen all of the time in DOC and nobody hears about it. If something happens at a CCA it was because we are not trained or understaffed. We have a lot of officers here from DOC that said they would leave corrections before returning to DOC. So unless you've worked at CCA you should'nt trash it. It's a great place to work.

Re: Fight Causes Prison Lockdown
We had a riot at another facility in colorado. Our SORT team was deployed there. We had two officers stuck in a unit. They dressed in inmate clothing and secured the door of the cell and acted like they were inmates. It worked until we were able to come rescue them.We went in that pod and cleaned house and got them officers out. The newspaper read CCA loses control of prison DOC SORT teams had to rescue 30 CCA employees. All do to poor training and understaffing. An inmate showed me the article. I'm still mad about that and that was a couple years back.

Re: Fight Causes Prison Lockdown
Don't let anyone fool you. We in the feds work for the dregs at the bottom of the barrel. It doesn't take much to beat us. I have a friend who came to the feds from Wackenhut. He was shocked to find that he "moved up" to an organization with only a fraction of the professionalism, and pure garbage for training & equipment compared to the Wackenhut prison in Lawton, OK.
My problem with the private operators are the lower than average salaries they pay their staff. And the friend I mentioned above? He's still with the feds for one simple reason--money.

Re: Fight Causes Prison Lockdown
I agree the money does'nt compare to state or federal. I make it up in overtime. At my facility they will let you work up to 24hrs of overtime a week. Last year I pulled home 36,000. We just expanded another 740 beds so we can bring home our inmates from north fork in oklahoma. So we just recieved another raise it's getting better.
