Re: Next IDOC academy
IIRC 30 is the minimum score considered and listed. 30 pts would only get you hired if they ran through the whole list clear down to the bottom (which, as said ealier HAS happened). Few will otherwise qualify for hire and have a score quite that low unless they are literally new HS grads who have NEVER worked anywhere before.
If you are worried, read how the points are awarded. Illinois Department of Corrections - Hiring Process - Page 2 Lots of 'easy' points are available in the interview and from work experience. Don't lie or 'pad' work info, but include such duties that may have been security related. As an example---if you did alarm tests and inspected exterior lighting on a prior job once a month (but otherwise did other work) be sure to include the related detail. You might get five points for inlcuded that. The worst that will happen is that they decide the experience doesn't warrant the points; you aren't penalized. Remember the folks interviewing you are mostly senior CO's who WANT TO SEE MORE GOOD CO's get hired. Keep focused on security, Officer (and inmate) safety, and using the least ammount of force to get a job accomplished safely in a scenario. Calm and smooth following institutional protocols and procedures are good; a 'boring' day in corrections is good--Officers go home unhurt with less stress and the system hums along. Good luck; sign up to have a test date set up and they'll send you data. If you decide not to go, it cost you 5 minutes of time. Good luck--Mike (N.L.)

Re: Next IDOC academy
i recieved my score and on the bottom it states if you score 33 or lower you will not be considered for employment. i honestly don't see how anyone could test that low though i'm only 19 and they only counted my work experience from when i was 18 but i still got a 58 score some how....on the other hand is there any word of another class after the one that is down there now?

Re: Next IDOC academy
They entered an MOU with the union and have thus far honored it so they should have at least 1 more class of 120 statewide by the summer. They are supposed to hire in an effort to cut OT by June or July because they will no longer be able to discipline us for refusing a mandate come the end of the fiscal.

Re: Next IDOC academy
Wish I could say it was but truth is they can be for anyplace in the state. They were supposed to be giving us another class but there's nothing in stone on that. Hell they may even try to close is again at any minute now and the state layoff issue isn't gone just on pause.

Re: Next IDOC academy
Whats your 1st choice County/facility? The 2nd doesn't too much matter unless they deplete their list of 1st choices. Either way a 70 is enough to get you on any list and hired at any of the larger facilities. Actually the only places you might have a problem being hired with your score is in Southern IL and places where staff don't retire and getting in is really competitive. Vienna, East Mo', etc.
