Officials: Hillsborough deputy used Taser on wife

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- A Hillsborough County sheriff's deputy is being held for a mental evaluation after authorities say he used a Taser on his wife.



Thirty-eight-year-old Carlos Thomas Tanner is a 10-year veteran of the department. He remained behind bars Tuesday at Orient Road Jail.



Tanner was arrested a day earlier and charged with felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor battery. The sheriff's office says Tanner had been drinking when he got into a fight with his wife. Authorities say he took a Taser from his duty belt and used it three or four times on her abdomen, burning her.



He has been placed on administrative leave without pay.

This guy was drunk and stupid, but like someone pointed out a taser is NOT a deadly weapon. In Florida the news media for some time has hyped up the tasers. Every time one gets used inappropriately we suffer. I got tased and yea it sucked, but I would rather get the taser than a face full of S*BRE RED!! That stuff is Horrible.

Maybe he should have just sprayed her instead, at least the burn would go away. Seriously though, that was not a good move at all. But I still question the charge of aggrivated assault with a deadly weapon.
