5 DOC guards arrested

Five Department of Corrections officers were arrested yesterday after allegedly smuggling contraband into the prison.

According to a DOC press release, Steven Salbaboro, Aaron Jessop, Jimmy Santos, Roque Castro and Marvin Aguon were arrested for promoting prison contraband as a second-degree felony.

The five were found to be in possession of pornography, 10 pounds of candy, tobacco products and cigarettes, all of which had been concealed in their backpacks. The items were found during a random search. The search was part of an order made by Director Jose Palacios in September of last year to ensure regulations are complied with.

Palacios said in the release that disciplinary action may be taken pending an internal investigation, but in the meantime all five won't be working at the prison facility.

"I want to ensure that they are actually working during this process, which could include clerical work. Administrative leave actually provides for the officers to still get paid while not coming to work, so I prefer to have them earning that pay during this time period," Palacios said in the release.
