Former FCI employee pleads guilty to embezzlement
By: Lynn Larowe - Texarkana Gazette - Published: 01/25/2008
A former employee of the Federal Correctional Institution in Texarkana has pleaded guilty to embezzling from the employee fund.

Stephanie Lucille Smith, 40, pleaded guilty Wednesday before Federal Magistrate Caroline Craven of the Eastern District of Texas. She is charged with being an officer or employee of the United States who has converted the property of another and with larceny.

Smith was accused of pocketing $8,523.77 while acting as treasurer of the employee fund by “falsifying records.” The money was supposed to be used for staff social events and to pay for rental space for vending machines in the facility, according to a press release issued Wednesday.

A date for Smith’s sentencing hearing has yet to be scheduled. Federal probation authorities will complete a pre-sentence investigation report after investigating Smith’s life. A recommendation for sentencing will be included with the report.

Smith faces the possibility of up to five years in federal prison.

On the upside, on the same day, in front of the same magistrate, two of our SHU thugs pleaded guilty to smuggling marijuana through the visiting room. The one who swallowed the balloons spent two weeks in dry-cell, because he managed to pass and then re-swallow the balloons. Nasty bastard!

You should see our dry cell. ZERO visibility from where the officer sits.

I cant understand how people think they are going to get by with this kind of thing. It always gets worse and worse to the point that they get busted.
