Stab Vests
How many departments out there direct their officers to wear stab vests. CA is the only one that I know of. I am in hiring process for WA DOC and I think they do not either.

We have stab-proof vests available to wear during cell extractions. Other than that, I haven't heard of anybody wearing them in Washington DOC.

Our Facility in KS is going to issue Carriers to the 5 day a week Seg. officers for A Cell House they are sticking all of the Inmates in there attack staff on a consistent basis.

vests should be a requirement on the job, period. there are some great under the uniform stab resistant and ballistic resistant vests out there nowadays. Technology has made it so much easier and comfortable to wear a vest on a daily basis. Police Officers wear ballistic vests on duty, why should CO's be excluded from stab and slash protection?

The vests the administration types think are ok for wear are the bulky, extraction or seg vests, when in reality they get in the way and hinder movement. check out Correctional | Body Armor : Pinnacle Armor - Body Armor and Armoring Products.

I personally like the american body armor products, the Xtreme HP and XT would be my choice for ballistic protection, but the turtleskin or pointblank products seem versed for corrections.

All Pennsylvania State COs are required to wear a vest. On the blocks or in a tower.
