Re: The Forgotten Cop
This is Great! I have it posted on myspace site. I think the 50:1 is for juvenile corrections. That is the numbers at our facility (most of the time). I did send a copy several months back to the local news paper, but they never posted it. Most people just don't understand unless you work behind the wall! Thanks for sharing.

Yup, I like it as well. I have it hanging in my office at the prison.

Re: The Forgotten Cop
I appreciate the work that you do and the danger you are under each day. Are you not allowed to carry guns because of the risk?
Also, I wonder, even though the inmates are all felons, have broken the law and deserve to be there, are there some who deserve to be treated with respect who are not violent, who truly are repentant and want to change their lives, and who could help make your jobs easier? I'm just an outsider looking in and I'm sure I can't possibly appreciate everything you go through, I know. But it seems to me there is some benefit to capitalizing on those inmates who fall into those categories. I don't know. |

Re: The Forgotten Cop
well soccermom we appreciate your input and by educating you,you can help to educate others.in a perfect world a few good apples could be saved from the rotten ones and in fact thats what we strive to do everday.inmate are placed in different levels of security based on their crime and past records.true some inmates are rather "model" citezens and their behavior is awarded with extra priveleges and often a reduction in security needs and better accomodations.generally by the time an inmate is assigned to a penitentiary,he not only has sang out of tuned but he is probably tone deaf and will never be any good to himself or others.i hoped i have shed some light on a difficult subject!!!

Re: The Forgotten Cop
I'm gonna print this and put it in the locker room (with permission of course) I think seeing something like this everyday we come to work will help raise our morale and will also serve as a reminder of why we do what we do. Great post.

Re: The Forgotten Cop
Nice to see Soccermom is back and still campainging for the nonviolent felon friend. Do you not realize that for the Officers who work this job this is their life? A career performed with respect, blood, sweat, and lots of tears? Men and women who have loved ones who wait for them to come home at the end of their day, hopefully intact both mentally and physically? That is what this "Fogotten Cop" post is about.
