your right, most states prob have not taken the same approach as texas, and in that I think they should. if a private company is going to come into that state and set up shop, then the officers should be made to take the exact same training from that state. that way the officers are trained alike, plus the facility should have to answer to the same people the state agency does and have to follow the same policies and post orders. i have no prob with the privatization of government, as long as the training is the of the same quality and the same policies are used and upheld. a private company can do just as good as long as they have the same training and tools to do the job. i know right now, i could walk into a texas state run facility and do the exact job that i am doing now only because i trained right beside my counter-parts and never miss a beat. to me, thats the way it should be.

I agree with this:

Neat post! ACA is a great organization! You can take classes from them at a nominal cost. Some you can get college credit for.... Cory, if you can get a banner for ACA, go for it...
Many of us don't know that ACA exists, much less PrisonOfficer.Org....Another great place for Correctional Professionals is N.I.C. (National Institute of Corrections)

I wish they had something like this before I retired. This is great hearing from not only the Bureau of Prisons but from State Joints.

Have any of you out in the world heard of SALVIA. It is a herb that is sold legally in this country. It makes the user hallucinate. It is smoked. Pass this on.

Re: AmericanCorrectionalOfficer.Org

I have been a proud member of American Correctional Offer since it's inception, and in fact a founding/contributing member of ACO's previous roots (CCJC,CUSA) but I am firmly where I belong with ACO. I believe 100% in the ACO's philosophy and proven leadership.

I have been active in Canadian prison privatization and had a significant role in turfing out MTC from Canada's only private prison in Penetanguishene, Ontario a couple years ago. Many thanks go out to ACO and Brian Dawe, along with CAPP chair Sharon Dion.

There will be more battles ahead and I know ACO will be there standing with me and the courageous correctional officers in Ontario and across Canada.

Thank You American Correctional Officer!

Jim from Ontario, Canada
