Re: Non Uniformed Staff Clothing
My favorite outfits include skirts. Now my skirts are long (midcalf length) AND I wear culottes/split slip under them. Several of my skirt have the culottes sewn in as one piece. Since I make them myself it doesn't cost more than a skirt somewhere else. I have honestly thought of marketing them as women's correctional attire.
You can find similar skirts on religious modesty sites. That is where I got the idea. A friend of mine wore them because of her religious beliefs, and I thought, HOW COOL IS THAT!!! I CAN wear a skirt to work AND go upstairs without thinking someone is looking up it!! As for shoes, I used to wear just comfy slips ons but my dr makes me wear tennis shoes. So, yes I do wear skirts with my tennis shoes. My kids think I look like a goofus, but that means the inmates probably do too! lol

Yeah, only my skirts aren't short nor "cute" and my "shorts" also go past my knees. Very sexy if you like surprises. Think Texas FLDS! lol

Re: Non Uniformed Staff Clothing
You have to ask just who are they dressing up for and why would they want to walk around a prison dressed like that. We have some staff here both uniform and non-uniform that apply the make-up real think and wear the nice smelling perfume and then get all defensive when other staff or inmates make commets about it. I say that if uniform staff have to follow a dress code, non-uniform staff should have to too.

LOL....you sure you want to get me started on this? I do agree with the uniform bit though. I rather wear a uniform and a pair of boots, I asked in ART and was told no. Even if I payed for it my self. But whatever. So yeah, our warden said she would love to see all the secretaries dress more "professional" and "lady like". She said she would really like to see us in skirts (which I do not think any type of skirt has any place in a prison at all, but to each their own)or nice suits (if you are going to give me the money to dress nice, I will gladly go out an buy a nice suit that my keys and radio will ruin), but then said she can't tell us to do that. She told me straight out that she doesn't like when we wear our wind breakers. I was walking around in the admin building one day without mine on (which is rare and only happens when it's really warm out) and she stopped me to tell me how much nicer I look and how she thinks I should go without it more often. I told her that truthfully I feel naked. She said she didn't understand. Go figure. I my self do not feel comfortable with pretty much anything showing here. Just the idea of wearing capris/ankle pants kinda freaks me out. LOL. Now I do hear a lot of people that say "if I was a female in a prison, I wouldn't dress nice or wear any make up or do my hair". Well some of us do like to look somewhat professional and presentable (just like most of you guys). We do have a lot of official visitors here to lean about the program that goes on in the unit I work in so we have a lot of tours coming through here. I do not want my boss to be ashamed of his secretary. Some us do put make up on and it's not for anyone else but our self. I know I can't leave without some powder and mascara on. Not all of us do it to impress people. I do wear boot cut pants and a plain decent looking tee shirt or sweater and usually a pair of sketchers sneakers. I wear a hat atleast once a week. Every once in a while I will dress up more (wear chunky small heals that I know I can run in) when I know there are going to be visitors or I am going somewhere right from work. I've also suited up during every mock exercise I've been here for and saw other people stand on the side and just watch because they couldn't do it because they were in heals and a nice suit. That pissed me off because I ended up ruining a pair of pants and shoes that day. I don’t know what people think of me when I come to work, but I hope it’s nothing bad. Sorry for the long winded reply, but I warned you. lol. The shirts I usually wear with a tank top underneath. I have about 8 pairs of these pants because that is pretty much all I wear at work.. Shoes.

Re: Non Uniformed Staff Clothing
Non uniformed staff should wear the conservative attire that at least visitors are restricted to. Culots under skirts are a good idea. And, who needs a lot of makeup at a prison?

It's long been the policy in the BOP for staff to **** up, then move up. I.E., **** up as in **** a supervisor or manager, then move up to become a supervisor/manager. Then there are those who have been propagandized in high school or college to believe that "up" is located in the gutter, so after those ol' "romantic outlaws" they chase.
