One day the Lt called me at home and asked me if I wanted a shift at the hospital. Nothing easier than sitting around a hospital room watching an inmate, right?!. I said "sure, where at, Lompoc, Santa Maria?" He says "No, second floor!" DOH! Dry cell! Since I had already opened my big mouth and said yes I couldn't back out.

Just so happens this inmate was innocent, they had busted him in the visiting room. How do I know he was innocent? Cause he shat his friggin heart out, he took laxatives and shat every chance he could. I friggin gagged all through that miserable 8 hour shift...we must of went through a case and a half of plastic bags, 43 pairs of plastic gloves, 16 cases of wooden sticks...and a partridge in a pear tree!

Only thing worse is when you get a dry cell and the inmate is guilty...ever seen anyone eat shat? Thats a whole different story.

We got a LT here that used to refused tell you where the OT post was until a couple of hacks would accept then decline after she told them where the post was.

I personally hate perimeter patrols, yeah its is a easy 8 driving in circles but damn can you say brain numbing boring. At least inside or the towers you can pick up a phone and B.S. with a fellow staff member. However the worst is visiting, with all the ankle bitters and "babies mommas." I used to sit at the desk on the podium and fantisies(sp) about shooting the little b@$t@rds.

I was working M/W and was called by the officer, a rookie, doing the watch. He was so freaked out he shouted it over the radio "Lieutenant this guy is eating his own **** and won't stop." He kept the radio keyed and you could here him ordering the inmate "stop, stop that right now, stop eating. Can't you hear me I'm telling you to stop eating your ****. Lieutenant, he won't stop and I ordered him to stop but he is still puting his **** in his mouth." The compound officer and I responded laughing the whole way. My side was hurting so bad and had tears in my eyes that I could not see straight. When we got to SHU the inmate is standing in the dry cell with crap all over his mouth and lips. We had a camera on him, the kind you can take still photos from, I told him I was going to give his mother a copy of the photo next time she came to visit. We stood there laughing at him till he got sick and started throwing up everywhere. The compound officer got sick and threw up on the rookie which made the rookie sick which made me run to the bathroom and have the dry heaves. We recovered the contraband through the whole mess. Darn, I had almost forgot that one.

Fortunately I'm one with enough seniority that I can stay out of there.
