Why do you say that? And when is the "next one"? Tomorrow I go for my background check, in dover delaware, I took the test in January so it has taken awhile. And it says background check could take 6-12 weeks!!
I just hope that they dont hold it against me that I used to smoke weed and I did not get convicted of marijuana, but I did take a 12 step program in dover, and passed and they dropped the charges, and im waiting for another year to expunge it. I already asked that question about if they would still hire me or not. But what are your opinions? I mean people do make mistakes and that was back in 2008 when I graduated the drug program, and they dropped all charges, well no conviction the lady said.
Well thanks.

It is def. Gonna be unfavorable for you. With all the applicants they have, weeding out is easy for IA to do. Either way their gonna find out. Good luck and keep us posted

Oh i know they are going to find out because im telling them ! I have my certiicates that im bringing with me tomorrow saying I graduated. I mean people make mistakes, nobody is perfect so shouldnt they just be like yeah he DID change and is trying to make his life better? Or are they just complete dicks? I mean b4 they even do the check and I let them know at the place 2morrow will they deny me right on the spot or will they contact me after they do the background check? I mean nobody is perfect i dont see why they wouldnt give me a chance. I've been working out for months now, I want the job, that is the only thing on my record besides speeding tickets. Hopefully they just consider it. That was along time ago, well to me. and it was very stupid.
Thanks.

2008 was a long time ago? They will not disqualify you on the spot because you are not doing a background investigation when you go. You will only speak with human resources and fill out the background packet. You will probably be DQ'd because I believe our policy is drug use within 5 years time. And as far as them being "dicks", it was your drug charge not anyone else's. People do make mistake, but we have enough screw ups in the department and they dont need nor want anymore. You may be straight now, but only time will prove your change. You can always apply later on down the road, it would be easier to show change. FYI!! They hounded me about a receiving stolen property case in which was dismissed. Oh yeah I was 12 when it happened. Law enforcement is full of ups and downs. If you fail once, keep tryin.

Think that is bad?

I applied in November 2008. I heard NOTHING until August 2009 (over 9 months later) when I finally got called for an interview. I started working in October. So from the time I applied until the time I was hired was 11 months.

Just keep in mind that good things come to those who wait. I never realized this until recently. I always wondered how some people had these jobs, well it's because they had the patience and the persistence to go after those jobs, where others would give up.

It is times like this that you find out that mistakes you make can come back and hit you in the arse. Law Enforcement has a saying that goes something like this-----------”20 atta-boys can't cancel one o-crap.” There are many variations of that quip, but they all mean that no matter how many good things you do, when you mess up----it is going to hurt. There are reasons for this.

Administrators (or as they are called in this business , The Appointing Authority) have to make a lot of decisions as to who they wants working for him/her. The profession and/or individual administrators have a set of qualifiers for the jobs they offer. In some cases in some systems they are simple yes or no.

The job has decided that if you don't meet the qualifications, or DO meet one of the dis qualifiers --------you don't get hired. Some departments place qualifiers on the DQ's such as no illegal use in X number of years, or X number of traffic tickets in X years. Some don't care they just DQ anyone that has any significant drug use and or arrests.

If you had enough of a problem with drug usage that you took a "12 step program"-----I would call that significant. Unless you took the program just to get the charges dropped. That scenario would indicate to me that you might have an integrity problem.

Statistics and experience have found that people who scoff at the laws which society (and your legislators ) have enacted, tend to not make good public employees . Especially in the Law Enforcement field. People who don't follow laws are more likely to not follow the work rules that guide our daily routines.

There are enough “stellar” candidates out there looking to become Correctional Officers in most states. Therefore most departments are able to pick the best person possible.

I do, however, agree that it was very stupid.

I have no idea what Delaware's position on prior drug usage is. In Iowa you wouldn't have a problem being hired with your “admitted” mistakes.

If I was conducting an interview and encountered your attitude-----------------you wouldn't stand a snowball's chance in hell of getting hired.

You, at least in your written postings on this forum, show an entitlement attitude. No employer OWES you a job. Your labeling of a prospective employer as
