Well said. Given i have only 6 years in, my shift is 85% full of people with less time than me. And they just keep coming. I like to be there when they have questions. They call me all the time for advice and what they should do in certain situations. Thats what you need to do as a new guy. ASK QUESTIONS. Don't assume you know it all. That is career suicide in a jail.

The qualities I look for is someone that isn't easily flustered, has a fairly quick wit (ie: can think for themselves, and under pressure), and a decent dose of patience, and the often mentioned willingness to learn.
