But there is no secret, no pill, no idea that will give you fitness. You got to EARN it.

I'M IN LOVE!!!!

But for real....consisticy (sp?) is the single most important thing. Do SOMETHING every single day. Whether it be a workout or "Active rest".
another thing, not to get WAY of topic....diet is about 80% of fitness. The weights and cardio are the EASY parts! I am soooooo not going to get into the mess of timing what you eat and all....just try to eat "Clean" as much as you can tolerate.(High protein, MODERATE carbs, Low fat, NO sugar, NO salt, only drink WATER!)

I like my bowflex. The plus side to that is the whole family uses it. And sometimes we have compititions in the basement. Note:My 9 yr old son is not allowed to workout with me without his shirt on, he makes me look very bad.

You got one of them new "Spiral flex" kinds or one of the older ones? Those new ones look cool.

Not to brag, okay....maybe a little, I was going to buy one, but my friend had one so I went over to try it out. It was okay.....but I could already do ALL the rods on the bench press. Maybe he had a "Lightweight" version, who knows....but I just thought I needed something more "Hard core" so I bought a Ironmaster self spotting machine (Google it) LOVE IT! I can now lift as heavy as I want and not worry about a spotter! My 5 y.o. daughter tries to mimic me but poor thing can't even press the bar......YET! give her a few more years....I'll have her looking like Zappo there LOL.

What do you do when you CATCH him?

I want to add a couple of things.
The "only drink water" I think that may have been a little too strict. Feel free to drink no sugar added fruit juices, however....dilute them 50% with water. Unsweet tea and coffee are okay too. Just dont drink carbonated beverages (Even diet sodas) The "only water" thing is for contest prep or a "Cutting phase"

The best time to lift or do cardio is first thing in thr morning on an empty stomach.(your glucose stores will be near depleted and you body will have to break down fats for energy) However, train when you can. If you cant swing an early morning workout....dont sweat it. Just train when you can.

If you can juice (with a juice machine...not 'roids) that is a great way to get nutrition also. And finally, supplement with a good, basic multi-vitamin. (I use Flintstones chewables myself.....hey, I like em, dont laugh)

Remember its not so much what you eat but how much. You can have a soda but only drink half, or a slice of pizza instead of 4.
The faster you want it go away the less crap you are going to want to eat. "But what is crap" come on if it has alot fo sugar or alot of fat drop it now. Just cutting soda out of your diet is a huge huge change in body.
Cardio, I know we all hate to run and it hurt and it cold and the heat and teh bugs, I can find a million reasons not to run but what are my goals what do I want to see achieve, its hard work to get a hard body its easy work to get a heathly one.

Thumbs up Re: Keeping in or Getting Back into Shape

If you restrict yourself too much you will end up blowing your "diet." You have to find something you can live with for the long term. Eat good food and have one day a week where you can cheat and have pizza, etc... You will eventually find that you can't cheat a great deal because your body will get used to good food and less calories. It all comes down to discipline.

Re: Keeping in or Getting Back into Shape

Believe it, the Wii Fit works. If nothing else it makes you feel guilty for not working out. It's seriously tracking my weight (which really ain't important cause it fluxes too much) to my BMI (which is important as it moves one point every few pounds) Its got me running 30 minutes straight with some other stuff to round out a good hour. And on my off days, I head straight over to my apartment complex resistance machines & do 3 sets of 8-12 reps. I'm trying to build up to free weights & body weight exercises. I've lost almost 20 lbs working at DOC & I need to lose about another 60 at least. Then turn the remaining bulk into serious hard, rippled, taut muscle. This year I'm trying to finally get cut.

Re: Keeping in or Getting Back into Shape

I am going through the same thing at the moment. When I joined up 10yr ago I was 22 and could run forever and having quit a manual labour job I was toned quite nicely. I got lazy and wasn't doing the manual work I had been. Finally when the wife told me I was getting fat I stepped onto the scales and was horrified to see I was 220lbs, now I am eating fruit and running again in my lunch hour. Work has a free gym that staff and families can use so both the wife and I use it now. It's mainly C.V. machines but it has a half decent multi-gym so I can add some weight.

The best advice I can give is to eat every three hours or so. For work i would suggest a protien bar or shake, Maximuscle Cyclone is superb as it gives protien, glucosamine and creatine. It doesn't taste too bad either (well the strawberry one is nice).
