AZDOC, how is it to work for?
I am thinking of leaving TDCJ and moving to Arizona, I know that the starting pay for CO's is higher there and with my years of service is increased more.
My current position is CO IV, I have worked Ad Seg, GP, Perimeter Security, armed escort officer. I typically work Transient Seg or Medium custody housing areas with the occasional armed post (at least 2-3 week). I have some questions and I will have more later. 1. Do all CO's carry OC? (we all carry it on duty in Texas) 2. How often do staff assaults occur in your facilities (I work at a supermax now and we have at least 1 daily). 3. How well did your academy training prepare you to work in your facility?

Re: AZDOC, how is it to work for?
We also are happier as a whole, get tasers, and are backed up a hell of a lot more by our administration.... Come on over, we have a LOT of former DOC working here.
![]() I think starting is just over 37k right now, which doesnt require a road trip each morning and night to qualify for that pay rate. I know several DOC officers that work at Florence and Lewis, who wouldnt work for the Sheriff's department, and most of the DO's I work with wouldnt work for DOC (me included). Our jobs are much the same, but oh so very different. Last edited by FlyByWire; 08-17-2008 at 05:56 PM. |

Well i just got done my first week of training and it was cake. The ahrdest part was staying awake in class, esppecialy with a monotone SGT. teaching the class like the ben stien guy from that clear eyes commercial. lol Anyways at the end of the week we started learning self-defense which was pretty cool but im sore today.

yeah they only give breaks at 1000 1400 and 1600 only for like 5 or 10 minutes they actually had to start selling monster energy drinks and water in the classroom to keep ppl awake.

Re: AZDOC, how is it to work for?
I am planning on starting the testing process with AZ DOC next month (the running is taking me sometime to get to where I need to be). I am also going to an orientation with the MCSO in a couple of weeks. Can anyone give me any insight as to which is better to work for? I am looking to hopefully get onto the TSU team after my 2 years.
