Becoming an officer while in the military

My boyfriend is interested in becoming a Detention/Correction officer. He seems to meet all the requirements and I'm confident that he would get through training with flying colors.

The problem is that he is in the Air Force National Guard, so he is required to go to the Air Force Base one weekend a month (two weeks a year) and occasionally he goes away for other special training, for longer periods of time. Also, he will more than likely be shipped off to the Middle East at some point.

My question is, is this something that will prevent him from even qualifying to be an Detention Officer because of all the time he might need off? Would it get in the way of training and the job in general?

Nothing about being in the national guard would prevent him from being hired.

The SSCRA only applies in this case if you were activated after becoming an officer.

No he can get hired he may even qualify under the Veterans readjustment act (VRA)if he has any active duty time. Been in the Army 24 years 16 of those in the reserves and currently on a 4 1/2 year mobilization. No problems.
