Question Arizona Correction officers need advice or tips

I am getting ready for my testing for yavapai county the 26th of this month. Any tips or advice? Also I have another dept I applied for (city of tempe) awhile back and they called wanting me to come test. Should I go out for both or would that look bad? When they do the backround check will it come up I put in for other departments?

Any one here work for either? They pay and benefits are almost the same, any one have any opinions on which is better to work at-city jail vs. county?

they are both small, the county jail is only 135 inmates.
thanks in advance for the help.

Sorry buddy, most of us on here are State DOC I think.

However, I don't see the harm in applying or testing for both. I can't imagine that they would view applications to 2 places as a bad thing. The choice is ultimately up to you if both of them give you conditional job hires.

What all does the testing involve? Be upfront and honest, do not try to hide anything, if they do a good enough background check they will find everything.....good luck!

Re: Arizona Correction officers need advice or tips

The county does an all day testing. At 8am I have the physical, then the written then oral boards. I find out that day if I go on and then I recieved my background packet. If I pass that I go on the the poly and medical then hopefully a job offer.

As far as the city goes they pretty much follow the same thing except you do the written, then if you pass you do the oral, poly and medical. They don't test for physical.

Where would you rather be? Yavapai Co. will be cooler in the summer (and winter :-)

Your post says "Wickedburg"; do you have family there that you'd want to stay closer to?

Actually they are about even, I did find out though it's about a 10 month wait for the ADOC, and Yavapai is starting an academy every 10 weeks.

=====> Yeah, that's true. I just graduated COTA today. It took about 9 months to get hired, although some of that was due to me (kept the background forms for a while, until everyone stopped moving and I had time to finish it!). One classmate applied last July. It just depends on what facility that you are applying for, as to how soon you get hired. Academies seem to be back to starting every other week, now, with the new budget.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons is hiring for Tucon. We are now seeing people with no degrees, no prior law enforcement training, and no military time.
