Anybody personally familiar with this department? From all the accounts I've seen from TV I'd love to work for Sheriff Joe. He's got the right attitude towards inmates. Pay is pretty damn good. Everything seems to be pretty good. Any personal experiences?

not personal experience but we had two of their staff going through the academy with my class 'cause they were hired on without any kind of training and from what one of them told me, the pay isn't all that great. at least not better than what we get at the state prison.
one of the officers i work with told me that she worked for the county and that it was absolutely terrible. officers and inmates on a first name basis, know each other from school. staff won't accept you when you're knew, want talk to you and treat you like an outcast. the good thing is, once you wear that sherrifs cap, you get free food at mcdonalds and cops will let you get away with speeding. no ticket.

You need to do some more research on Sheriff Joe if you think he's go the right attitude...that man is a murderer. Do your homework on him. You couldn't pay me enough to support that man....he's a joke!

I've heard some bad things about him from officers on another forum board....he treats his employees like crap....takes all credit for everything in the place himself and never passes it down to the officers.....he is all about "HIM" being seen...... but those are all personal feelings, second and third hand info (I know and officer who knows an officer, etc)..........if anyone has some links to news articles, concrete info, etc, I'd be interested in reading them.....

I think it would be wise for you to back up your statement. in the words of one of my professors "cite your statement".

I think his statement doesn't mean squat gunner...and I honestly believe we won't get any clarification on the statement made.....look at the profile...it states that he/she/it isn't a correctional officer.....I think this thread needs to be moved to the verified officers section....

I think you may have something there. I noticed the screenname as well. Probably an inmate lover that thinks its just wrong to put people in prison.

I have worked for MCSO for over 4 years and love it.

MCSO is a great agency, the academy is 8-9 weeks long. As long as your are in decent shape you should get through without problems.

The training is excellent, once your out of the academy and off FTO your eligible for advanced Officer training. The training consists of everything from investigations (custody), HGN, gangs etc.

Working the facilities is much like anywhere else, its what YOU make of it. There are people who will bring you down if you let them, but there is just as many that will become life long friends. Your also eligible to work outside of the facilities after two years on special detail or duty posts. I have worked on task forces, enforcement support and other areas that weren't in a facility.

Pay starts out around 40k and goes up from there.
