Re: Tent City?

Tent city is just a part of the Maricopa County Jail system. I would venture to say, and would probably bet that I am not wrong in saying that it is getting just as bad as the LA County Jail system.

The pay is good for he PHX metro area. County benefits for Maricopa, Pima, and Pinal county employees are generally better than state employees, the same for pay.The housing market in AZ is depressed right now, so it's a good time to buy. Go to the east side of the valley, Mese, Chandler, AJ, Gilbert, etc.

I was a SGT at North Unit for the AZ Dept of Corrections. They have tents there also. The tents are a horrible place in the summer. Tempers flare, living conditions suck, which makes a COs job more challenging. But it was fun.

Re: Tent City?

I was assigned to Tent City until about a month ago, you are required to work 1 year in a custody assignment before requesting transfer out to Tents. It's considered a "special assignment". It's more laid back than most of our other facilities, mainly because you need to improvise and do things differently out there compared to a traditional lock-down housing unit.

As native said, the summers can be a pretty up tempo time because the smallest things can set the population off. Tents is also considerably more dangerous that a housing unit, I believe, because contraband and weapons can be throw over the fence, and inmates outnumber officers 100+ to one.

Any questions just ask.
