Here at McCreary we havent had much info on this. The way it looks at this time we will have to pass a metal detector. However, if an Officer is found to have an item, they are to be allowed to return it to their car, no questions asked. In addition, it is my understanding that they are not allowed to go thru our bags nor are they to ask us to open them. They can only run them through the X-Ray and metal detector. Also, the local and admin has not had an acctual sit down as to when it will start.

I pass background investigations every five years. Risk my life restoring order to the institution. Deal with diseased inmates. Put up with A-Hole suits. Get searched after all this time. Glad the Bureau trusts me to carry a weapon when I escort inmates in the public eye but wants to peek in my lunch box to see if I have contraband I have never had. What a crock.

Re: BOP Electronic Searches

The occasional search wouldn't bother me so much, in that we're working in a sterile environment. But, will the execs be searched as often as the line staff. When told to open our bag to be searched will there be a union representative to observe the procedures, and to counter overly intrusive tactics. I think it would be a good idea that union be included every step of the way. But, the only thing I have seen was on Sallyport, with there being nothing on the CPL33 site concerning this. I'm thinking that the higher up people in CO want to go with messing with things at the local level and see what makes it up to the national level. In which case, the locals are going to be getting busier messing with this stuff.

Re: BOP Electronic Searches

Here at FCC Coleman they advised us that on January 15th, all staff will have to clear a metal detector and bags will have to clear xray every time you enter the institution. On January 7th, all supervisors will have to start being searched, to work out the kinks. The front lobby officer will be tasked with the searches but a lieutenant will be on call for any assistance that the front lobby officer will need, during shift changes and so forth.

No Yank, I haven't heard a word. I'm completely out of the loop and the powers on both sides don't seem to want to share much info.
