NO tie unless you want to wear it. If your in a high visible like the front lobby you might be wearing it. And they are clip on for obvious reasons. BUt I see plenty of people wearing regular ties to work as well.

In my facility, we're only required to wear the wonderful maroon tie if we are either in the front lobby, visiting #1 officer, activities/operations lieutenant, or if you are wearing the long sleeve shirt.

Otherwise, you're getting made fun of...

I never liked clip ons because I had to keep my top button buttoned all day. With a regular tie you could losen it up when hot and uncomfortable.

I know about the choking bit with your own tie. What I did to eliminate that problem was to cut my tie in the area that ended up behind my neck and install two small snap clips. If someone pulled on my tie in an attempt to choke me the clips would seperate.

There was a time, and if they still had their way, BOP administrators would force us to.
