To be fair, I don't think all LT's are that way. There are people that way, but not everyone of them. Stepping on to backs is unfortunately the way some prefer to do it, even as GS-7's. It's not right, and they will at some point reap what they have sown.

As to going through desks, keep your personal stuff in your bag. One with a lock on it, if you're that concerned about it, (not that it should need it, as there should be courtesy towards one another). That way if someone else get's in and looks for paperwork, or supplies, that's all they find.

His point is that the Bureau rewards such tactics and what they "reap" is a promotion.

Exactly. The lieutenants who don't use that tactic, generally retire as lieutenants (or counselors).

The road past first-line supervisor is paved with peons.

Yes, there needs to be someone else present during a search. Funny thing once we had an officer search the CO office and write it in the shakedown book. I nearly wet my pants laughing. The Lt. was not as amused.

All of the stuff in my desk was confiscated from inmates. I just tell the Lt I'm waiting on the compound officer to take it to the dumpster because it's "hot trash." Hmmm, how'd that dvd player get there? Bad inmate!
